If you have been through the irritation of a sudden disconnection of your call and the charger is no where too be found, you must have wondered of some magic that can put back life in your phone. So, here comes the magic.

The Eclipse Intuit Phone by Eddie Goh, this one doesn’t require a charger as all you need to do to charge it is just expose it to light…not only sun light but any kind of light and it’s battery will get into action. Thanks to a chemically based thin solar skin that covering the pars of the phone, the phone gets charged in light.

Talk about rest of the features and this concept scores well there as well. It comes with a cool 5 mega pixel camera loaded with software to upload and treat pics, slide-out touch keyboard with tactile feedback, and a chick big touchscreen front and center.

All I can say is ‘I’m desperately waiting for this concept to get into life.’

Windows XP - For Whom the Bell Tolls

Only a mere 2 weeks from now the final death toll will have rung for Windows XP. Your default option for a Windows operating system will be Windows Vista. It’s time for it to sink or swim right?

I’m not sure how I feel about this move. I realize and understand that Microsoft needs to move forward with operating system support and start focusing as much of their efforts on Vista instead of continuing to keep people propped up on Windows XP indefinitely.

The problem with that thought though is that Windows XP is still a great operating system. It’s got its issues and had it’s issues from day one (just like Vista), but it’s just been so long on the market as the de facto operating system on Windows machines that it’s a tough one to walk away from quietly.

Are you an end-user that’s reluctant go move to Windows Vista? Are you a developer that’s still developing for XP exclusively? Since push has now come to shove, will you stick with a Windows operating system or will you now make the jump to Mac or Linux options?

I’m sticking with Microsoft and Windows, but if I had the cash I’d love to have a maxxed out Mac laptop running Windows just to compare things.

There's a lot of speculation as to what we can expect from next week's iPhone announcements, but there's one thing you can be sure of: The iPhone's location-aware features will change your life. Whether that means pinpointing your location on a Google Map (which iPhones already do), tracking your friends when you go out, or giving you a heads-up on the best place to eat within a three-block radius, the location-aware future is bright. Here's how it'll work.

Location-A-What-What?

Apple's iPhone firmware update at the beginning of the year introduced a faux-GPS feature that uses cell tower information to triangulate your position on the iPhone's Google Maps application. You click a button, and a few seconds later it tells you approximately where you are on the map. So far—unless you've jailbroken your iPhone—that's all it can do.

Jailbroken iPhones—and all iPhones after next week—have and will be seeing a slate of location-aware programs that will take advantage of that faux (and possibly true) GPS information to give you all kinds of heads-ups on what's going on in your area. Here's a look at what's to come.

Find a Great Place Nearby

CNet is reporting that the popular online review site Yelp has already slated a location-aware app to plug into their enormous database of business reviews to give you an overview on all the restaurants, clubs, dentists, and mechanics nearby. If you absolutely can't wait for Yelp, you can already find a good restaurant in the neighborhood with StreetFlow, an iPhone application for jailbroken iPhones that allows you to view and contribute to reviews of nearby restaurants. You can even take a photo while you're eating and upload it to give other users a better idea of the ambiance. (Not jailbroken yet? Don't worry, it'll only take 45 seconds.)

Social Networking Goes Hyper-Local

On the social networking front, tons of developers and opportunists are gearing up to help you keep track of your social network in real as well as virtual space. Twinkle, a Twitter application already running on jailbroken iPhones, tracks the location of your tweets and displays the location of all other Twinkle users within anywhere from 1 to 1000 miles. New social networking web sites like BrightKite are cropping up built specifically as location-based networks where you can track your existing friends and make new friends nearby, and if they don't already have an iPhone application in the works, you can bet someone else already does.

Document Where All Your Photos Were Taken

We've given you the rundown on how to geotag your photos—a process that involves embedding location data in your digital photographs—but when you've got a location-aware device taking the pictures, your memories can be automatically geotagged for you. Don't remember where you had that great sushi? Now you can just check the picture.

Google has already begun incorporating geotagged photos in Google Maps, giving users a more personal look at locations than the bird's-eye or even street views can offer. Again, jailbroken iPhone users can already install an application called iFlickr that geotags your photos as you take them and then automatically uploads them to popular photo sharing site Flickr. And since Flickr has geotagging features built in, anyone looking through my photostream can see approximately where I took the picture.

Ugh, the iPhone

I know, I know, you're sick of hearing about the iPhone, it's not the first gadget to do x, y, or z, etc. The upshot is this: The iPhone may not be the first device on the block with location-awareness capabilities (at a minimum, GPS devices have been around and providing similar services for a while now), but it is the device that's going to break location-aware applications into the mainstream. And from a consumer perspective—assuming I take off my tin-foil hat to bask in the glory of useful possibilities—the location-aware tools that will be developed for and made popular by the iPhone will change your life for the better.

Western Digital Researching 20,000RPM Hard Disk to Fight Solid State Drives

According to blog Bit-Tech.net, sources in the hard drive industry say that Western Digital "is working on a 20,000RPM Raptor hard drive to combat" Solid State Drives, since these are going to "be affordable in the next 12 or 18 months." The new Raptor will be a 2.5-inch drive inside a 3.5-inch custom box designed to make it "silent," since a 20,000RPM HD could probably make your ears bleed after a few minutes at fulll speed. But can a mechanical drive compete against solid state?

Even while the new 20,000RPM Raptor could be engineered to be ultra-fast and more or less silent at the same time, the challenges for a mechanical design are too many to ignore. Mainly, there's is the issue of power consumption: this rotation speed will require a lot of extra energy compared to normal drives, which is a bad spot in a market that is claiming for greener technology, and is moving away from the desktop into the mobile space, where power consumption is a make or break issue. The reliability of such a complex mechanical design would be another potential problem.

Everything to try to match Solid State Drives, which also will keep evolving, getting faster and even more efficient down the line.

Microdia to Release ("FIRST!") 64GB CompactFlash Card

While several companies are working on a 64GB CompactFlash card, Microdia will be the first to actually bring the technology to store shelves (in Australia) this month. Dubbed the Microdia 64GB XTRA ELITE CF, the card features super fast 45MB/second read and write speeds and promises to hold somewhere around 19,000 high resolution JPEGs from a 20MP camera. BRISBANE: Flash memory company, Microdia, launched its new business in Australia with a world-first 64 GB compact flash card shown first at PMA — the Microdia XTRA ELITE CF card has a 45 MBS data transfer rate and can store up to a claimed 19,000 photos.

Microdia founder and CEO, Louis Leung, said that it specifically chose the PMA expo in Australia to launch the new card as a demonstration of the company’s commitment to the local market as well as a showcase of its credentials.

“We have only been in Australia for a matter of weeks, and decided the best way to demonstrate our capabilities and intent to offer the world’s best flash memory products here was to launch this product at Australia’s leading professional photography trade show, PMA.”

Although a new brand to the Australian market, Leung pointed out that his company has an established track record in memory technology.

“As a new brand to Australia, but as the world’s second largest flash memory company — in terms of production capacity — with a 17 year history, globally launching the 64GB CF card in Australia at PMA will give us tremendous early momentum in this market.”

Microdia’s claim that the 64GB card can store up to 19,000 high resolution photos is based on a 20 megapixel camera taking jpeg images.
